Another Wireless router question

I am installing a new wireless router within the next couple of days. AOL are sending me a new one because the one I have is about 4 years old. I am happy to set it all up but should I uninstall the old software first? The old wireless router is a Thompson Speedtouch, the new on will be a Netgear DGB111G.

No software needs to be installed for a router, so not sure what you think that you will need to uninstall. The router is configured by entering it's IP address into your browser, that's it. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Thank you. I am so used to being told to uninstall or something awful will happen that I just assumed I would have to do it in this case as well. I did think that at least if I had a problem with the new one I could plug the old one back in.0 -

One good thing about using a router, is that you do not need the ghastly AOL software installed on your machine. Decrapifier will remove it totally, for a much better surfing experience!

I had a Thompson Speedtouch broadband modem (as opposed to a router) from BT about 5 years ago (a little dome shaped box like a mouse) and as it was usb powered.
There was software to install it and also in the case of BT the browser was installed from same cd during installation so maybe this is where some confusion has arisen maybe if this is the same thing?
I'd see if the new router works ok without uninstalling anything first...
Perhaps you can let us know Mrs PB...?0 -

Yes I will let you know - I will also be asking for help if it all goes wrong. I should be OK I have set up friends and neighbours with the same thing and never had a problem with it.0
