I have now found out that a sky box does not expire, agter many emails to sky and the last threatening to cancel everything they phoned me up and said the box does not expire so they will send an engineer round for free (normally cost £65) and if my box is faulty they will replace it free of charge. Great i though so i got my box from the cuboard and plugged it in ready for the engineer to come next week and guess what it is working!. I phoned sky last night and told them it was now working and to cancel the engineer. I looked at my statement and they have charged me £65 ! plus they have charged my multiroom which i do not have from the date my digibox packed up! so they want £169 i told them no way am i paying for that and they said i would have to cancel my direct debit then on the 5th feb phone up and pay what i originally owe then set the direct debit up again hmmmm this company is really taking the mick!

It occurs to me that your symptom is also typical of what happens when a large TV is warming up. For the first few minutes, it blasts out interference which makes the Digibox Infra Red sensor "blind" the the remote control.

BTW the first thing to do if you have problems with a Digibox is to "reboot" it.
It is, after all, only a computer with a tuner.

aaah.. that is a very interesting comment.. i upgraded to a nice shiny 40" plasma, and notice, that when i just turn it on, and want to flick channels through my sky, or even change inputs on my tv, it takes a couple of button presses for the IR things to respond... but after a while it is as responsive as i was used to with my 32" crt...

no ways of curing that apart from turning on the tv 5 minutes before i want to watch it? well, that's like having to call the doctors 6 weeks in advance if you want to be ill..
