Shortage of surveyors??

The estate agent selling my flat rang me the week before Easter and told me that my buyers had their mortgage arranged subject to survey and I should have the lender's surveyor round very soon.

Since then - nothing.

I called in at the EA's office last week and was told that they've got 5 or 6 sales stuck at the same stage, waiting for the lender's valuation to be done. Is this just Croydon or is there suddenly a nationwide shortage of surveyors?? This is the last thing we're waiting for before we exchange and obviously I'd like to get everything signed ASAP.

Sometimes, when mortgage deals are very popular, it takes a long time to process the sheer number of applications. If the company directly employs valuers then they will be under pressure.

It probably isn't a shortage of surveyors in general.

Ahhh - given the huge reduction in available mortgages, that would make a lot of sense.

    Thank you
