Help Needed for Honeymoon May 2008

Help!
A friend is trying to book her honeymoon, and is looking for something special, but surprisingly enough, has a budget which doesn't quite seem to cover what she wants. CAn anyone help?
Date: from 5th May, departing anything up to a week later
Departure Point: Gatwick
Destination: An all inclusive location such as St. Lucia, Bahamas, Barbados, Antigua, Maldives, Thailand- Koh Samui or Krabi
Length: Either 7 days or 10-14 days
Budget for all inclusive is £1600-£1800
They don't want to be hit with any unexpected costs, so would prefer the All inclusive option.
An alternative Itinerary would be somewhere in Europe, but would then be on a Band B basis I guess, and the budet would be reduced to £1000.
European destinations could be Northern Italy, such as Verona, Florence or Venice, OR Cyprus OR Greek Islands.
As I said, they would like something nice as it is their honeymoon, not just any old holiday!
So theres the challenge - can anyone help? Or is she asking the impossible? (Thats what she normally does anyway)

Try Caribbean Warehouse:
http://www.caribbeanwarehouse.co.uk/
I think she will need to contact them for a quote but their 'from' prices are very competitive
Also try Kuoni - some of their later offers are very well priced.

Personally I wouldn't touch Venice with a barge pole - it is very smelly. How about Southern Italy? I am organising my best mate's wedding in Capri - it isnt a bad place but can be a bit pricey another suggestion is Puglia down in the heel of Italy - this is a fabulous place and is a lot cheaper than Capri and more picturesque. Somehow I dont think that she will find anywhere that offers all inclusive holidays in Europe (other than the ubiquitous Center Parcs type facilities).
I have just done a search and found this website: http://www.cognoscentiworld.com/hotels/index.asp - you can also click a link marked in purple for family & honeymoon offers - there are few places offering discounted honeymoons in May.

Many thanks to Incapuppy and Horace.
We will certainly check those ones out.
Any other suggestions?0 -
I have seen some good deals to the Dominican Repbulic and Jamaica ... and a few weeks back I saw a TA advertising Aruba quite cheaply as well. Would I be correct in assuming that the budget is for 2 people (an dnot 1).
If it was per person then I would have suggested a Caribbean or Med cruise. having said that May is before peak time and the likes of Island Escape may have some god deals for the Med?
One other possibility, and we priced it at significantly less last year (but in the end could not go) .. a river boat up the Nile
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Hi Ivan
You would be right in assuming the budget is for two (it is a honeymoon after all
)
Nile cruises are not an option as we have had too many cases in our office alone who have been ill after their holiday.
Will check out Dom Rep and Aruba. Thanks for the tip.0 -
CAE - my mate used to work as cabin crew and used to fly into the Dominican Republic a lot. He has cringed when people have said that they were getting married there. I have never been and never fancied going after seeing the resort on watchdog numerous times. My mate tells me that the Dominican Republic is being like locked inside a dirty prison camp. Avoid it like the plague and go somewhere else.0

How about Sri Lanka with First Choice."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

I got married in the Dominican republic last year! and it was incredible! Not a single thing I would've changed! It was the Riu Merengue if anyone is interested.
I think like most countries there are nice places and no so nice places. The not so nice places tend to be really cheap thus attracts a certain type of person (eg chavs).
There are pleny of reviews on the internet, check them out.0 -
Honeymoon now all booked The Fortress in Sri LAnka.
Looks awesome! Anyone actually been there?
Thanks sloppychops0 -
Sri lanka is an excellent choice, a beautiful country! I haven't been to the Fortress but just today I heard from someone who had and who said it was really lovely. Would recommend going for dinner or a drink in the nearby Galle Fort Hotel at some point too. A walk around the fort at sunset is very romantic and the hotel is old colonial style and a nice setting. I hope they have a lovely time.0
