I saw these for the first time last week. But they are very picky with what they were reducing. I was looking at the ready meal selection ( don't tell them on the OS board:o :rotfl: ) and the girl was reducing certain meals that had that day's sell by date. There was one variety my DS3 loves and I asked if she would be reducing it as it expired that day. The reply was "no, only the listed ones". That's when i saw she had a short list of products to be reduced. Shame!

M&S isn't ridiculously expensive for food anyway. Woopsies have been in place from the 31st. Staff shop is still pretty good though :)

M and S are ridiculously expensive on many food items; veg and fruit are much better value at Aldi, Netto, and local markets around closing time.

M and S can no longer trade on their reputation of quality; even some of their clothes are poorly made. Much of the mens Blue Harbour and Autograph range seems vastly inferior to product which would originally have been sourced in the UK.

have stopped buying clothes from M and S. Asda George are just as good and a quarter of the price in most instances.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

M & S donate left over food to our local hospice.
  • I work in a children's hopsice and the local M&S food store used to donate all the end of date stuff to us, this was stopped a couple of years ago and we don't half miss it!! The families/children and staff always looked forward to 'delivery' date!!

I used to work for M&S when I was a student, and any food that wasn't sold to staff at the end of Saturday (before Sunday trading!) was taken to various shelters around the town. So they said!
I used to work at a womens refuge and can confirm they used to get food from M&S in this way. :T

  • I work for a retail park M&S. The food goes into reduction at 4pm - any food that goes out of date on the night is then sold to staff and then what ever is left is donated to charity.

Staff pay 1p for any milk including milkshakes, 20p for sandiwches and 10p for any bread. Everything else we get 75% off on.

M&S can be good value for money, and I find the quality very good too. I wouldn't do all my shopping there, I only buy the offers. I've had big loaves of nice wholemeal bread for about £1 each, and their instant coffee which is very nice often goes on buy one get one half price, which makes it better value for money than most of the brand name coffee in supermarkets, and it's fairtrade. Their swiss chocolate bars/boxes go on offer frequently too and end up much cheaper than similar items anywhere else.

They're also generous with vouchers, I had a sheet of serveral £4 and £5 off a £20 shop vouchers earlier in the year.

Depending on your usual shopping, going there can save you money, if for example if you were going to buy the supermarket premium range, or brand name, then M&S often sell a similar item of good quality which will reguarly go on offer and cost less. This is even before you use a voucher.

I buy items across the whole range, from sainsburys basics and market stall things to some speciality items, so I would be spending more for these items wherever I buy them. It's just a cheaper place to buy those specific items I already spend more on because I think it makes a big difference to quality.

Fruit and veg is normally on offer at M&S so it really isn't that bad. The sell by is much more generous at M&S and the food on the shop floor is much better looked after. All worth the money.

The clothes may have deteriorated in quality, but if you have a problem with them, M&S let you take them back even if you have no tags and no receipt. Not many places that will do that nowadays. Might sound biased, but M&S go out of there way to keep the customer happy, thats why people come back week after week and literally spend hundreds.

well i'll be keeping an eye out, might ask OH's mate ( m&s food manager!) what time they are starting, as they shut at 10pm i'd imagine it would be about 8ish
Official policy is for stores that have late night trading e.g close at 9 or 10 the reductions get done at 4pm and all other stores 2pm
