I am travelling to the US and noticed my AA card uses a show your card scheme which gives AAA discount in the US. Has anyone used this and when I am trying to booka hotelwhat is the International 3 digit code. I cant find this anywhere. Thanks

I've used it and rec'd the appropriate discounts. Like you, I can't find the 3 figure number, so I've gone for Plan B and quoted the 16 digit number that is on the front of the card (often sites ask for the16 digit number for US/Canadians) and each web booking has gone through that way.
IIRC, places are more interested on actually SEEING the card when you check in, pay the bill, than the actual number.0 -
If you contact the AA they will issue an AAA card to use. You will then have no problem getting discounts.0

Thanks for the advice. Will try the 16 digit code on the web site and call the AA tomorow. Great advice0

Most Hotels / Attractions in the US will accept any discount card, they expect people to have them and price accordingly.
TRUE STORY:
My parents where travelling arround the US on a driving holiday back in 1997, on the second night of thier holiday, when checking out, the hotel clerk asked if they had a 'discount card', my father (who was 68 at the time, and a bit of a wag) said yes, I have my B&Q 10% discount card - which the clerk took, and duly discounted 10% off the hotel bill.
They produced their B&Q discount card for the next 8 stops and where not questioned once and always had 10% taken off the bill.
They saved more on that holiday with that card then they ever have in B&Q itself!0 -

Better late than never, the code for the UK is 428. Residence Inn and Hilton (I think) need this to get the AAA price.

Hi
Just wanted to confirm, looking to stay in NYC in September - not currently got breakdown cover as other one has run out recently, was tempted with the AA as the AAA rate discount is quite substantial in many hotels in the US - is the AA card definitely accepted for this rate? Was interested in a Marriott, I know you can put in AAA for the rate there.
Is there anything online to state what membership is required - ie. can a basic AA membership do the trick?
Thanks.0 -

I searched the AAA site before my recent trip to the US. You get money off at loads of places, and your AA card is accepted in my experience. I've used it at various hotels incl. Best Western, at Universal Studios (cheaper tickets and food discounts, too), and I got over 50% off tickets for Six Flags Magic Mountain ($27.99pp - bargain) with a printed voucher from the AAA site.0

In the USA, Best Western will give a discount to ANYONE aged 55 or older, not just American citizens. We discovered this halfway through our third trip travelling through the USA, still better late than never I guess.0

Most of the major hotel chains give a Senior discount that seems to apply to anyone over the age of 55. The amount of discount varies it seems to be located under 'select rate plan' the T&C of most suggest it applies to all seniors.0
