Hi All
Don't know if I have posted this in the right forum, so apologies if I am wrong.
My problem is my gas meter, it's not leaking, but it does makean awful noise, like a loud squeeking, when demand is placed on the supply e.g. when combi boiler running.
COuld I ask for the meter to be changed. If so who would I contact. I knwo it might sound trivial but as out meter in in our kitchen, in a cupboard, it is still noisy and off putting /9when I first heard it I though I had a fault with my boiler!).
Thanks in advance.

When I worked for the old Britsh Gas, meters were changed every 10 years, not sure if that is still the case. You should however still be able to get the meter replaced for reasons such as this. It is caused by wear on either the metering mechanism or the regulator. It is nothing to worry about, but contact your suplier, tell them the problem and expelina it's really loud. Also have a look on the meter (often the face or side) and see if there is a label stating either a manufacturing date or an installation date, this might help in your argument.
Don't be fobbed off, many of the staff are totally unaware of the issues regarding meters in these flipping call centres.
If they change your meter, double check the readins of both old and new. Furthermore, and this is important, if you currently have an imperial meter measuring the gas in cubic ft, and they then install a metric meter, don't panic at the rate the new meter tallys up the gas, they work differently BUT BUT BUT make sure the new gas BILLS show the new gas usage as metric - otherwise you'll end up with mega huge bills of thousands of pounds. You may however find that your gas bills do increase fractionally, due to the better accuracy of the new meter.
