Blooming Cheek !

Hello All,I've just got off the phone to southern electric who have pulled a great fast one over god knows how many people. We had our meters read on the 21st March, but the readings have been applied to the bill dated the 2nd April and heyho the price rose on the 1st, so I had been charged for one days energy at the new rate even though it was read 10 days previous, and also the next reading would also have included 10 days worth of cheaper energy too ! The poor bloke had to go and find out what "they" were doing to resolve this problem, and it was being fixed on an application only basis !I am seriously thinking of contacting the energy watchdog people about this blatent overcharging. If any of you are, or have been the recipients of bills that contain price changes, I would advise you all to check. It only added up to a couple of quid for me, but a heavy user, with a poorly timed bill/meter reading combination could well get stung for more.Cheers all, and hope I have got some of you a few pennies back from those that don't deserve it.Martin.

With E.on and prices rises they always (well with me they have) apportion it up pro-rata over number of days before / after change.

i.e. last bill/reading Dec '07 this bill Mar '08 total units 300 (for sake of clarity) price rise Feb '08 so 200 units at old rate, 100 at new.

So in your case, SE should have taken the Mar 21st reading as set in stone, and then estimated your usage between Mar 21 and April 2nd and charged 10 days at old rate and one day at new. I take it that is what they have done to rectify?

I hope when you gave them your "readings" when you called, you over-stated them so that more units would be billed at old rate (albeit with some units from next bill being effectively paid for in advance)?

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I am with Atlantic, same group as Southern. I gave them my reading on 31st March, which they have used for a bill dated 12th march. 12 days at higher rate. They have confirmed they are only using the 31st March reading on a specific customer request basis.

So much for those on this forum who feel the industry is so well regulated, suppliers would not "dare" to use readings to their advantage and make extra profits. I don't particlarly blame suppliers, as their main reason for their existance is to make money for their managers and shareholders. The customer is way down on their list of stakeholders.
