Cook works bread maker

Well I've bought the cheapy one from Argos, had a hovis packet mix from ASDA I did this but put water and butter in last, think this might be wrong as it was all doughy and sunken in middle....... Please advise, also I know there are loads of recipes but can anyone recommend one for wholemeal/seeded bread that works with this machine, or are they all of a muchness.

did you put the ingredients in as detailed in your manual? I know each machine is different (ie Tesco have water in first but the Panasonic has the water in last).

Also I've found that by using the packet mixes, I use 20ml less water to get better results.

I think the recipies that come with the Panasonic are only suitable for that bread machine but I'm sure someone will come along with recipies for your machine.
  • Well I put water in first this time, the manual is terrible but I sup
pose you get what you pay for. Also warmer butter in microwave and use room temp water. Used about 325mls water this time rather than 350mls....... Thanks JennyW

it is a bit trial and error. I bought a Tesco BM first off and to be honest, couldn't get a decent loaf out of it. I then cut my losses and bought the Panasonic and I do get good loaves out of - it's consistent with wholemeal, white loaves, dough and cakes (although having a bit of trouble with my fruity spice loaf rising :o ). I made a nice small 50/50 wholemeal on rapid bake last night and used 20ml less water. The frustrating thing is that you have to wait 3/4 hours before telling if it's been a success although I had a sneaky peak just as it started the bake cycle - if it was flat then I would've stopped it
  • i have the cookworks one too. found it to be pretty good, although its the only one i have tried so nothing to compare it to:o
i only make white bread so im not much use to you but my recipe for a great loaf is......
    500g strong bread flour
    300ml warm water
    1.5 teaspoons yeast
22g dough improver (lovely lady off ebay, sure she does it for brown bread to)

put water in first, then flour and improver and the yeast on top
put on "dough" which is number 8 on the menu
when done, 1 hr 30 mins take out and knead a little on a floured surface
put in a 2 lb loaf tin and leave in a warm place for about 30 mins then into a hot oven for about 15-20 mins depending on your oven.
sould be light brown, if your not sure tip it out the tin and tap the bottom of the loaf, if it sounds hollow its done
    hope that helps a little:D
Dear Lord,so far today i am doing alright. i have not lost my temper, been selfish or rude.i have not cursed, whined or eaten any chocolate. HOWEVER, i will be getting out of bed in a minute and i will need a lot more help after that...amen
  • I just the other one and is much better, still a little doughy, but still warm so may be why it is right for the top to be a little caved in? I suppose it's not got a warm plate for it to sit on so will be slightly different in the crust.
