Bit of a sweeping statement. I have read on a couple of UK business forums that yellow pages has not always been that good for all... of course it does depend on the service you are providing though.0 -

the OP was talking about bouncy castles and i was responding to that.
you can advertise through letterboxes, free internet sites, vinyl wrapping on your car, tattoo your bottom, etc etc. but people wont write the details down or keep flyers as it is a very specific thing. not like where shall i order a pizza from. they will look to hire for an event regardless of what advertising you have been doing they won't think,
'wow heres a flyer for a bouncy castle hire. I'll hire myself one for tomorrow'
they will look at yell.com and this is what the £150 was quoted for not the actual YP directory. and an advert for £150 (and that is the best ad for that price) is a good investment. people look for this type of stuff only when they need it and where do you look when you need something like this? i go to yell.com
admittedly i dont think its a viable business to be setting up. based on the number of listings i have seen on ebay of people trying to sell their bouncy castle hire business over the last several months. and secondly on the number of firms i have seen offering this type of service. but perhaps there aren't many where to OP is.0 -
Try spanglefish for a free website! They're free cos they have small googleads on the site you'd have but you can pay £25 pa and get the ads removed or use the space to let people advertsie and take the revenue yourself.
I asked on here about Yellow Pages in the early days of our business over a year ago and the advice was save your dosh and use it towards a website, someone mentioned Spanglefish and we are chuffed to bits with your site.
I do think that someone on there does rent out bouncy castles as far as I remember from the sitemaps..but anyway.. the support you get from them is fab, the forums are great, ther other spanglefishers are a lovely bunch who will help you as much as possible to get our site looking fab.
Hth, good luck with your business!!!!
Best wishes,
Lucy
ps no, I'm not anything to do with spanglefish apart from we have our site with them and they have helped us tremendously over the past year or so..I know that they've helped other fellow MSE'ers with their new businesses too, who are also chuffed to bits. :T0 -
I have recently used vistaprint for my new business stationary - cheap and good quality - and every week they email with special offers - they are based in the netherlands but i am in greece and they post to me very cheaply.0

Hi, Has anyone please got any advice on how I can save money in advertising. Yellow pages have recently quoted me £150 for a year. Although this might seem cheaper than some it is still quite a spend for myself. I have just started a Bouncy Castle Company which is in its very early stage. Has anyone got any suggestions where I can save money on advertising
Thanks
you can advertise on yell.com for free, no charge atall and i think today most people use online so i wouldn't pay the £150 to be in the next book (when's it published anyways?) and in my experience yellow pages are negotiable, if they think they're gonna loose you they can drop their pricesDon’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.0 -
