Help needed friend signed as guarantor

stupidly for a car worth £7,500 for a car foran old boyfriend (stupid i know) they fell out went there seperate ways. She moved to another part of the country and was shocked when a summons dropped through the post demanding 15k !! They want an attachment to her house, court case coming up soon. Her circumstances have changed and whilst she realises she has a debt, she cannot see why it is 15k when repayments were made and the car snatched back. She has not hid but obviously did not know that they money was owed .She cannot afford to consult a solicitor but needs to know can she get the debt reduced to the amount when the default occurred and if she has an attachment to the house does the debt stop accruing interest or carry on until debt is paid.Any help /advice gladly recieved.Thank you.

I would get an appointment with the Citizens Advice Bureau as soon as she can. They can give help with issues such as this.

    Hi
I would say that this thread may be better in the 'Debt-Free Wannabe' forum than on the 'Warnings & Rip-offs' - although it is a timely reminder to all of us about the inadvisability of signing as a guarantor.

There's loads of people on that forum with great advice about debt collection agencies etc.

    Good luck to your friend.
