Free Full version microsoft products for students!

Had a quick check and couldnt see this on the forums already.

Don't know how well known this information is, but basically Microsoft are offering some pretty neat software to students for free. They are all the complete pro editions, not trials =) This is pretty much a first for Microsoft. I know the expression studio would set you back around $600 to buy, round the same for visual studio too. It does say you'll have to verify your student status every 12 months. Not sure if the programs will stop working at the end of the 12 months until you renew... but since its Microsoft, I'm sure it will.

* Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition
* Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition
* Expression Studio (includes Web, Blend, Media and Design)
* SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
* Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition, with SP2

My university wasn't on the list, however Eduserv Athens is on the list. I authenticated through that using my athens username and password and it worked perfectly =) From the very limited listings, I'm very much guessing that they intend for people to use Athens.

Now seems like a really good time to sign up because potentially could give you an extra year after being a student to use the products (a year from your last April for instance).

    If your doing any sort of computing related course it might be worth asking your uni if they subscribe to MSDN Academic Alliance, im told most do and you can get a subset of the full MSDN software completley free (our lecturer put it quite nicely - you can get all the non fun software, so Vista Business instead of Vista Home, lol)

    You only get 3 products. Well with my uni anyway.

    If I still have 1 or 2 or even 3 (haven't used one yet :p) I shall buy some program which costs the most and sell it on ebay lol
  • I wonder if the Open University subscribes to this? Anybody know?

    You can get this with ISIC card which is also part of NUS extra. Choose the option to confirm student status and then enter your ISIC card number in the box.

    If you have NUS Extra then you need to have the last 12 digits with S before it.
