Superking size mattress advice

Hi all - We are looking to buy a new mattress - we currently have a king size bed but I am now wondering if we should get a new frame as well and go for superking size. I need all new bedding anyway. I had a couple of questions:
I looked at the frames in IKEA - I know they are meant to be different to UK sizes so you have to buy their mattresses but has this changed? I thought Ikea frames were always bigger than UK mattresses. The bed frames for superking in Ikea are 180cm by 200cm and the superking mattress I was looking at (not from Ikea) is 6ft wide, which I think is 183cm, so that would make the mattress 3cm too big for the frame rather than the other way round? Is this right?
I was looking at either the madrid or venice mattresses from bedlum beds as they have memory foam on both sides so I thought the mattress may last a bit longer. Has anyone got either of these? Any good?
And how on earth do you turn a superking size mattress? Are you actually meant to reverse mattresses when you turn them or just rotate them, if you see what I mean?
Thanks for any help

Hiya
I believe that '6ft' is almost always translated to 180cm when you're talking beds -so the 6ft one should be 180
Most modern mattresses are 'non-turn' although I hear good things about rotating them every now and again.
One warning I might have is be very very sure it will actually fit in your house (no - I don't mean the room itself - more getting it up the stairs (if you have any) - just moved house - you would not believe how much fun we had getting it up the stairs...4 men...1 hour...lots of bending...)

Hi, i love my superking bed.
Ours has a memory foam topper, it's an attached pad on top. So it's a 'no turn' mattress.
We do rotate it, my head to his feet, but it is flippin' heavy.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Thank you for the replies. I think maybe one we need to rotate but not actually turn over would be a good idea. And good point about the stairs. I seem to remember some trouble getting the king sized mattress up. Ours have a turn which caused the problem, so I don't really know how to measure to see if a super-king would go up because it is more getting it round the corner rather than the height or length. Hmm. Maybe we should just stick with king sized.
There is so much choice I am a bit overwhelmed. I thought we might go with a company where we can try the mattress for a couple of weeks and then change it if we need to, I can imagine they would be thrilled if we changed our minds about a superking!
Anyone got a particular mattress they really really recommend? I know it is best to go try a few but the thought of taking my three kids to a bed shop is enough to give me nightmares!
Cheers

We've just bought a super kingsize bed from Dreams. It took the delivery men a while to get the mattress into the bedroom! Regarding taking kids with you... Our dreams store have a kids play area at the back so my 2 want to go in everytime we pass!!0

Are you seriously having issues about 3cm of difference! a ft to cm conversion using 2.5cm to 1 inch will be 180cm for 6 foot.0

Non turn mattresses won't last as long as two sided mattresses, especially pocket sprung mattresses. This is because pocket springs all work independently, therefore don't support each other. Each spring individually can be compressed between a finger and thumb. So you need to alternate between turning a mattress over, and rotating it. The only reason that most memory foam mattresses are non turn is because the memory foam is the most expensive part of the mattress, so it is to keep the manufacturing cost down.
If you struggled to get a king size mattress up the stairs, then you can buy zip and link mattresses.0 -
like me your tied in to ikea bedding for life.however with a bit of a struggle, you can make normal fitted sheets fit - sort of
.
I love the extra length of ikea beds
Apparently matresses/beds in holand are slightly longer than normal tooGOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0
