Vista Backup discs?

I have bought a new laptop with Vista & trying to make backup discs onto DVD's. It asks 'Where do you want to save your backup?' The options are 'D' or 'E'. Presumably if I want to save to discs, then I would choose 'E'? Is this correct?

It then goes onto ask how often to back up - how often, what day & at what time? Does this then mean I have to backup to discs everytime at the time designated?

Thanks

It should say whether it is datadisk or dvd disk on the drop down list. It is upto you how often you backup but there doesn't seem to be a way around this with the backup option. Are you trying to backup your entire system or just your files?

Is it better to do the whole system? I have most of the files on my USB pen.... What is the difference between a data disk & a dvd disc, without sounding stupid?

A data disk is a Hard disk drive usually and has more capacity. I usually do a full system backup once a month or so, that way if it dies I can just boot up with my vista disk, select system restore and it is all back up and running in about 15 minutes. If you are backing up all your files to USB pen then doing a backup is probably not for you. Just copy all your files onto a DVD and put it in a cupboard.

Do you backup onto discs? Do I need to save Vista. My pen only has my music & photos & documents on it?

    Thanks again

Did you get a set of restore disks with your laptop? If not it is a good idea to do a complete system back up

I never got any disks, so I am doing it now - I think. I have put in a disc & it seems to be working...so far....

    Thanks for the help.
