Hi All,
Hoping the wealth of knowledge in these forums might be able to help me out - I am desperately searching for an Intel processor - the Q9450 (not really bothered whether retail or OEM) -
These seem to be like gold dust unless I want to pay a massive premium - does anyone know of anywhere with them in stock?
Cheers
Jim

Good luck, the cheapest I can find it outside of a custom built machine is around £2190

But it's £258 including VAT, presumably plus P&P.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Do not use Overclockers. They are fine until something goes wrong, then you are stuffed. Their customer service is virtually non-existent. The technical support number is premium rate and takes an age to get through on and they put the phone down on you if you complain. When you RMA stuff, they deliberately break it in some way then send it back to you saying it has been 'user damaged' and charge you a testing fee. A complete bunch of cowboys.0

can i ask why a quad core and why the q9450 it's not much better than the q6600 when both are oc to 3.6ghz and there is not many board that can take them yet with out a bios updatethere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0

Thanks to all - I should probably have highlighted that I would 'NEVER' use overclockers at any point ever
- and their prices is a fair old premium too
I want the Q9450 for a number of reasons - not all performance related (Also, not happy with the reliability of OCing the Q6600 that far - I have a feeling many people may get some unpleasant surprises in 6-12 months time - electromigration etc.) - I also quite like the idea of saving the planet and using a little less juice
(Not to mention that the bottleneck in terms of OC performance of the Q9450 is FSB due to the locked multiplier - new mobo's will arrive soon I am sure
)

ps - any updates - sensible sites with good pricing in stock?

3.6Ghz is quite a hefty overclock for a Q6600, but it'll do 3.2Ghz ok on air. I run mine at 3.0Ghz to be safe. Under full 100% load no core goes above 59C. Great value for money.
Overclocked my last E6300 just fine. It's still going strong after 2 years. I got it from 1.86Ghz to 2.94Ghz."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Slightly bemused by the reference to Overclockers - I've used them as my sole supplier of PC components for more than 5 years (at least 7 PCs worth of kit) and have returned faulty memory, memory that I bought by mistake and a failed power supply and in every case received a full refund with no hassle. RMAs are now on-line (just did one for the power supply), so no need to make that call either.
No relation to OCUK, just a satisfied customer who felt the need to bring some balance here.0
