But the most weird thing has happened. I've been out most of the day and had yet again let the laptop go on standby (yes I know I should and will stop doing this, but at the time I thought not much else could go wrong so just left it). Anyway, this evening when I pressed the power button, the laptop restarted as though after a shutdown, but this time Lenovo Thinkvantage Recovery kicked in as there was an error in start-up. As a result, whatever was preventing me from logging in before, was fixed and everything is back to how it was before all this happened.

And yup, no more activation key requirement now either!! Just the usual Windows is activated message under Windows activation.

Well I really don't know what the heck has been going on, never had this with XP or ME pcs but then this is my first laptop........Just to be safe I did a system restore to before when the problems began.

Most important lesson is that I will back up more often, lol.
