xbox 360 usb hdd?!

hi,
i have an xbox 360 and an external hdd.
i have plugged in the hdd into the usb slot on the back of the xbox but it isnt reading it. is there anyway to get around this as i would like to watch my films through my xbox?

I dont think you can do that with the xbox 360 as it wont recognise any hardrive apart from their own one.
I think you can stream through the ethernet cable from your pc, but not direct from an external hardrive.
You can do it with the ps3 as that will read any external hard drive.

Err, you can connect external hard disks to the 360 just fine. You just can't write to them.

The HDD will have to be formated as FAT32, the XBOX will not read NTFS0

It works for me. I just connect it up, select new datasource and choose portable device. As you go to play it you it will probably promt you to download an update and then Bob's your uncle.0

all i need to do is convert all my movies to wmv so the xbox can read them.

It can read avi files aswell. It just requires the update I was on about.0
