Leasehold Management Company - Advice

Just hoping that someone could give me some advice regarding my leasehold management company.
They have just put up my monthly fee to take into account work they are proposing to do on the building. This work is the installation of Double Glazing, which they do not intend to commence until 2013/14. Seeing as they are not going to do this work for possibly another 6 years is it legal that they can begin to charge me for it without any prior consultation?
This annoys me as I do not for one second think that in 6 years time I will still be at the property so effectively I will be paying for a service that someone else will benefit from and not me.

Hi there. This sounds alittle bit similar to what I have been goiong through the last 5 yrs. FOr the first 3 yrs I was paying 100 a month into a reserve fund to cover the works to the converted flat that I was in. The works were done when it turned into a private property from a council one. They did about 5 k of works but it was whover lived in it at the time who paid for it. Now Im moving and the new owners wont have to pay a thing and they reap the rewards fo the new works!
These leasholders have the power unfortunaelty. Hope it sorts itlsef out.0 -
If you don't pay you will either get sued or when you eventually sell, your buyers will want you to meet any arrears out of the sale proceeds.
If you managed to persuade them not to charge anyone a contribution to a sinking fund to cover the work in the future then you would probably find that when your buyers found out there was no provision in the reserves for future work and they were going to get stuck with the whole cost, they would want that amount knocked off the purchase price.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
But what if I want to sort the double glazing myself before this date? I do not want to have to wait years.0
