Child Tax Credits

I work for NHS, i saw a link on my intranet site which read as follows:
CHILD TAX CREDITS
If you can answer YES to both the following questions you may be due a tax refund of £740.00!!
Children Born between 1985 & 2003?
Were either you or your partner employed in 2002?
When Child Tax Credits were first introduced the Revenue failed to pay the proper amount for 2002/03.
The result? Countless thousands of parents have missed out on a potential £740
When i called the advertiser they sent forms to me. For me then to realise the forms were for an agency to claim it back for you, this is not the concern. The concern being I called tax credits to be told there's no such thing/no problem! Following this i called the advertiser back to which she told me tax credits are telling porkie pies! Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi Joanne,
Yes, I claimed successfully myself by contacting my Tax Office and asking to claim. They sent me a form which I filled out and returned together with my P60 and received my cheque some time later with interest. Don't let someone else do it for you and take a cut. If you don't know which your tax office is either check your P60 forms or ask the payroll section at work.
You may have to be persistent that you're not talking about Tax Credits, which HMRC don't deal with, but a tax allowance called Children's Tax Credit. The first HMRC adviser I spoke to hadn't heard of it.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)
Debt free success date: 14.8.2006 :j0 -
Here's your starting point, the online 'do I qualify?' page:

!!!!!!, that's about claiming Tax Credits now. The OP is asking about a tax allowance for parents available before the current Tax Credits system was set up. Here's a previous thread on the subject which includes details of how to claim the allowance: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=291626&highlight=parents+taxmanDebt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

Have rung this number: 0845 3021467 and they are sending me a form. Basically a lot of people missed out on a lower tax code during the switch over period, she advised i definately fill in a form. Ring them.
