I would really recommend the Cafe in the Crypt at St Martin in the Fields church. Its right next to the National Gallery and the food there is lovely. It isn't necessarily the cheapest but I think it is very good value for money and is not cheap carp!! They do have a website but I'm not sure how to do links. Also the atmosphere down there is really good and a bit different from your normal caf if you are having a special day out - their afternoon tea is out of this world.

Really looking forward to this, hope to see Buckingham Palace, all Brits should see that I suppose ;)

Wouldn't bother with Buck House, deathly dull and in the wrong area. Spend time in Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden itself, lots of street performers and free entertainment plus in the same area as the Nat Gallery.Hope for good weather and you'll have a fantastic, cheap day out.

oh go to chinatown not only do they have food places but they have amazing food markets, and it's always fun to people watch there (and in soho which is like two minutes away)...

would be good to get some packets of biccies and stuff foe the way home and it's dead cheap and you're bound to find something interesting...

  • Just a quick note on the National Gallery, I went there last year with my parents (my dad has a sight disability), they're excellent for people with disabilities, very helpful indeed.

On a slightly less positive note, the cafe in the National Gallery is very over priced and although the cakes look nice, they're not that great.

I hope you have a fantastic time though, the Gallery is really something.
