laptop trouble

i know i really shouldnt do this but ive noticed for a few months that the battery on my laptop is shocking and only lasts about half an hour on full battery.ive looked at reviews of this laptop and apparently this is normal for this model.now the warranty is about to run out in a weeks time.any suggestions as to how to "spill" something.i cant take it back for the battery thing as theyll say thats just the model.but it really is terrible if i dont want to have to have the wire in.(whole point in having a laptop eh?)
thanks.

Change power settings to extend the usage, and disable the features such as the wireless button when not browsing. I purchased a cheap laptop for myself before mt company provided me with a work one, needless to say the cheap one's battery is terrible compared to my work machine and the wife's macbook which is even better.

One thing I would definately prioritise in a future decision would be the battery now.

just thought I'd mention here something that all you techies probably know but for other non-techies, who are a bit clueless like me, my OH pointed out that once a month you need to allow the battery to completey discharge and then charge it up again - this extends the battery life. Also, it is not advised to have the AC adaptor plugged in to the computer when it is switched off as this can damage the battery. Pull the adaptor out when you shut it down.
