Prob with Gmail set up

I joined Gmail today, the email works fine, but notifier icon on address bar has an exclamation mark on it and states on it an error has occurred, cannot log into mailbox, unable to find the server in DNS ????????

Sorry, I should have said I was able to login to gmail and check my account with no errors. Not that it helps you.

Might be a temporaty issue caused by your ISP and so it may work later.

Edit: Just re-read your original post, now I realise the website is working for you normally, but the google toobar gmail notifier (http://toolbar.google.com/gmail-helper/) isn't. I don't have any advice to give on that, maybe someone else will.

Still can't get it to work, I've emailed Google, but only rec standard FAQ as a response. My Yahoo notifier works fine, I thought this Gmail was supposed to better.

I'm presuming that you are talking about the google toolbar notifier icon? If so are you running a firewall?

Yes it's a company laptop and has Nortons Internet Security 2005 with personal firewall clicked on YES

I am not familiar with Norton 2005, however it may be that your firewall is blocking Gmail notifier. According tothe Gmail Notifier FAQ it uses SSL (TCP port 443) and regular HTTP (TCP port 80). Try going to Norton 2005 and following these instructions to open a port for Gmail Notifier (if it's listed).
