decking stain V fence stain.

Please can someone tell me the difference between decking stain and fence stain, as they seem on the face of it to be a similar product but the deck stain seems to be 2 or 3 times the price??? Thanks

Deck stain is far more durable, it contains alot of waxes etc. After all, you need to walk on it. It's like comparing emulsion with gloss.

adandem is bang on, fence stain is false economy, I know I did it last year, and it looked good for all of a month. Shop around and get the proper stuff for the job.
  • I agree with the above but it is expensive. I use Ronseal and Homebase have it on promo with the application pad cheaper than tins at around £22. B&Q sell the same one for £30.50. My local B&Q say they will match the price and reduce the lower price by 10% so you could end up paying around £20

Wickes decking products are good value. I've just bought a large tin of clear decking treatment for £12 to seal some railway sleepers.
I would visit the store though, the online selection is poor.
