Hi all, I have just bought a Canon Pixma MP460 all-in-one printer and have spent more than 3 hours trying to put the ink cartridges in!! Yes, they are the right ones, they came with the printer. I have followed the instructions and have tried every which way possible but it is no good. So please if anyone has this printer can you give me some guidance? There does not seem to be anything for the cartridges to slip into/hold on to/fix to. I have been trying to put them in on the left side of the printer where there is the letter B and next to it the letter C. Help before I go bonkers.

When printers are sold they have "carriage" tape/packing all over to stop them being damaged.

Have a look for stray tape/cardboard/plastic.
Check the ink carts for similar.
Follow the instructions and you may need to angle the carts as you put them in.
  • I have a MP210 which is probably the same as yours with respect to cartridge installation.
Are you following the instructions exactly?
Switch on the machine, lower the paper out tray and lift the whole top assembly, hinged, which should lock open with a strut.
The cartridge holders should move into position under the C and D. They park on the far left, out of sight.
Switch off. Then fit the cartridges into their respective holders. They do click into place. It is a bit fiddly because the front has to be located first. Lower the top and switch on the power.
Maybe your cartridge holders aren't moving into position. They'll not do so until the printer is switched on and the top lifted.

    Thanks Unrich and Oldage.
    Thanks for the link unrich.
By turning the printer upside down (unplugged of course) and with a tourch and a pair of tweezers I managed to extract a miniscule piece of clear tape from the rieht hand inside the printer, which was blocking the carriage from moving. I had already checked for packaging but had not seen this. It now works!!
    Thanks to you both.

  • Glad it's sorted. That transit tape/packing can be a pain in the bum sometimes.
Just realised I don't know my left and right. Cartridges park on the far right!!!
