Calling all you Mums and Dads,

If you had to recommend one baby product you couldn't have done without during or after pregnancy, what would it be? Do you have something you couldn't have lived without? Do you have something that you never even used?

A bit of help please for us nearly newbie parents,

TIA XX
It's great in here! :)

In middle of night when your ickle one is hungy no sterilising bottles or getting one out of fridge to warm up whilst they scream with hunger. Breast is best aid ever . Fab thing is you can lie in bed and make them happy . Nature is womderful and free. Also makes your figure come back quickly. Oh I miss those days sob sob

Mine isn't a thing, it's my fantastic Mum who would look after the children whenever I needed her too, right from day one she was there to help, never interfered or told me how I should be doing whatever it was I was doing. I know I was very lucky and reading some of the threads on here from time to time I know not every new mum has such help and support.

Going back quite a long time, but one of my absolute must haves was one of those bouncy fabric chairs that the baby lies back in and can be gently rocked with one foot whilst you eat :D or just to have a break from actually carrying them!

I agree with the comment about breast feeding - but if it is painful then use nipple shields to reduce the initial pain - also use calendula or camomile cream on sore areas.

I had real trouble breast feeding twins - only managed 6 weeks - but with the next two I managed over six months perfectly happily.

Do not feel that you have to buy everything brand new and do not buy too much in the first size as they grow so quickly.

Loads of babygo's - baby soap and warm water instead of expensive products and loads of cream on their bum so they do not get nappy rash.

If they do Sudocrem is great and letting them kick without a nappy for a while.

Mine loved the bouncy chair as they could see me and hear me.

Babies can be fascinated by something as simple as washing on a line.

Don't forget nursery rythmes on a tape -(your voice will eventually give out)

  • During pregnancy I loved at the cream and oils from the Avent Mother to be range. Friend bought me a set of 4 (must have cost a lot), and they did me for the full 9 months .......bliss! And not a stretch mark in site. :j

After.......loads of things that were neither use nor ornament ( as my mum would say) :p

1.) Top of the range M&P full pram, complete with ALL accesorries! Cost a fortune ditched after about 3 months, in favour of a decent fold up buggy, that I could fold and throw in the boot myself! (instead of a manual to dismantle M&P one)

2.) Top of the range Tomy Baby SLing! Try putting that on, on your own after oh has gone back to work! used once.

3.) Top of the range changing station with bath incorporated. You have to fill it up in your bath, then try lifting it (weighing a ton) onto its platform so you had all your baby bits to hand, then lifting it back into your bath to drain (used about twice!) Then progressed either to sink, bowl, or as got a little bigger to bath seat in our bath, which they all loved!

Loads of other untold *must haves* that went up into loft few weeks later.

Just though of the one precious thing though that I did buy with no.3 and wish I had bought with the first two. A Graco Battery operated baby swing. My son has spent hours a day, listening to the music, watching the mobile etc. It was soooo soothing for him, and worth it's weight in gold! My mate has got her eye on mine now, as she is due on my sons 1st birthday next month.......Can't believe where this year has gone!

  • The one thing I used constantly despite thinking I wouldn't was a hand crocheted shawl. ;)

    Kamillosan for sore boobs!!!

I was ready to give up breastfeeding whilst still in the hospital during the post-birth first few days. My boobs were agony. A lovely Somali lady in the next bed offered me some of hers as she swore by the stuff (she was in having her 9th  so had plenty of "sore boob experinece"!.) Oh relief!!! It's about £5.99 a tube in Boots but worth every penny when you've got sore boobs in the first few days after birth.
