Hi
Does anyone know of a good (preferably cheap) book for off-motorway services. I'm fed up of having to remortgage any time I want a pot of tea!

Cheers

There used to be a paperback book called "Just off the motorway" - try looking on amazon but I do not know if it has been updated.

Sometimes if you go just off the motorway you come to a Tesco, Asda etc that has a cafe - breakfast for under £2 and £1 for a pot of tea or coffee.

You could just have stuff like cereal bars, fruit and a thermos of hot water with coffee and tea bags and make your own snack?

I could do that, but then sometimes you need other 'Facilities' if you catch my drift. Also, it's nice to let my 2 year old get out for while.
It would be good to know where the supermarkets are because soem pubs/restaurants can be a bit funny about small children.
    Thanks for the help

Could you look up the supermarkets on your computer - for example - if you were going to Manchester - look up Sainsburys,Asda,Tesco etc ?

Or do this backwards - work out where you might be then look up supermarkets etc.

If they have a cafe then they will have a loo.

Should be able to gat a "Store locator" form your local Tescos for free. Obviously it only shows Tesco stores but the symbol on the map section tells you if it has a garage or not and if you look the number on the symbol up in the list of stores in the back it gives details of opening hours, cafe, pharmacy etc. Pretty sure Sainsburys do one too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I shall try them out, but really it would be better if there was a single source of information, say a book, that I could keep in the car to cover all eventualities. If anyone else knows of such an item or even website then please let me know.
Thanks again to all the people that take the effort to respond in this forum.

tesco and sainsburys both have a booklet listing where all their stores are, and it also contains a map, so you see roughly how far off your route they are, and what facilities they have

they are usually available in their petrol stations

Apparently (according to customer services email) Sainsbury's no longer do a booklet, just the website store locator.
  • If you go to the books section on Amazon and type in 'motorway', it comes up with some options. There is 'Pocket Good Guide to Motorway Breaks', 'Off the Motorway' and 'Nip off the Motorway'.

I think I might get one.
