Help - How can I get Channel 4OD to work on my Apple computer

Help please - - - I am missing out on all those 4OD programs..

4OD only works on PC but not apple computers. Has anyone been able to get it to work on an apple? Can you point me in the right directrion to getting it to work???

    Hello HappySad,

I believe you can run a program called VMware along with a copy of windows vista to run windows programs on your mac.

VMware and Parallels are both commerical software that allow you to run Windows XP or Windows Vista as a guest operating system on a Mac. VirtualBox from Sun Microsystems is a free-for-personal-use software that does the same. Whichever system is chosen, a fully licensed copy of MS Windows will be needed - exactly as if it were being installed on a regular PC.

And yes, going down this route should, in theory, allow you to use Channel 4 on demand. I have a 2.4GHz Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM and Parallels installed with Windows XP, so if I get a few minutes later today I'll try installing it and let you know.

Just tried 4OD and it runs perfectly on my Mac under Parallels.

This presupposes, of course, that you have a recent "Intel" Mac and not an earlier G4 or G3.

    Good point.

I can also confirm that the PC-only version of BBC iPlayer works as well under Parallels, although I'm quite happy watching the flash-only version on the Mac's normal browser.

 Makes you wonder why you bother with a MAC in the first place doesn't it? :rotfl:
    Just joking of course.

As we don't know which Apple the OP is using, I'll just point out that I couldn't get it to work on WinXP running in Virtual PC on a Powerbook 17" 1ghz - can't remember the exact problem, but I think that 4OD, or something required for it, like Windows Media 10, didn't think the computer's specs were up to scratch...

So, simply put the answer is no - you can't access 4OD on your Mac :(

b.t.w. This won't help you at all, and may even be rubbing salt into the wounds, but thanks for the heads up on the service. I hadn't seen 4OD before and I'm now nearly at the end of watching the 1st series of Father Ted on my Mac. Absolutely fantastic service :D
