Walking to Heal help?

My new foster dog is well trained in every other way except for walking on the lead. He has people coming to see him on Friday with their other dog and they want to walk them both outside and I want to have him walking to heal before they come. I know the treat method works but how do i start it off and what treats work the best? How long would i need to do the training each day to end up with a walking to heal dog by Friday?

well luckily collies are exceptional learners! Get him out as much as possible, and on his own so he's not distracted!
I wouldn't worry too much though, if they're bringing another dog to see him, he's going to be far more interested in that, distracted on the walk, and being in a totally new situation with new people and another dog, will probably forget all you've taught him anyway!
I'm sure the new owners will only be making sure the dogs get on, not how good he is on the lead!

Thank you, i hope so, he really is so well behaved and obedient indoors.

OMG my question is number 3 on a google search I can't believe that.

Have they already met him? if not, make sure they do (leaving their dog in the car at first), just so they can see how good he is. He'll probably be so excited with the other dog around, ALL his training will go out the window!
If they're experienced owners, they will realise this, and it won't make a difference.

They meet him on Friday but if they like him they will take him because they live so far away near the sea and would like to just do the one journey, lucky boy eh to have all that beach but yes i guess they will teach him themselves. He did learn sit and down quick, i'll give it a go tomorrow. Night Night :beer:
