Wireless router question

I have a new wireless router coming in a couple of days courtesy of AOL it is a Netgear DGB111G. I have an old laptop which needs an adaptor card and have to download a file from Netgear for it to work with the new router. My question is can I download this file before the router arrives and still be able to use the laptop for the internet (with the old wireless router) or will the file overwrite/replace the original information and will then only work with the new router?

I can't see why you need to be downloading anything if you're already using wifi with your old router. There's nothing special or unique about the netgear.0

as i read it, the lappy does not have wireless at present, so op is going to buy an adapter, the new adapter hould come with a (driver) disk, so nothing should need downloading, just the usual aol cs bs.
the router will have a quick-start guide, just follow the instructions

I am using the old laptop for the internet but not often. I need the download to make it suitable for the WPA. My old router will work with WEP and WPA but the new one is only WPA.0

so your lappy has wireless (via a card), but only compatable with wep security? and you have been told that an updated driver/firmware is available from netgear to use wpa? if so, there should be no problem downloading/installing nowUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
