Company promisary contracts ?

Hi
If I sign a promisary note with my present company as they are willing to pay my open university fees is there any chance that if I leave in a years time for example that they can actually make me pay back the cost of the course ?
I understand it is basically a contract but im not sure wether it is fully binding as surely it places an employee in a awkward situation ie if the company turns to not treating its employees reasonably then the employees who would owe the company money are not really free to leave ! or even if someones circumstances change it could prove very difficult
any advice appreciated ....

I would have thought that if you sign a contract to say that you will stay for X amount of time and then you don't, then the company will be quite within their rights to ask for a level of compensation.
If, for example, I went on secondment with my company I would have to stay for 6 months after otherwise they demand repayment of your air fares. I believe that this completely normal and ok.0 -
i know when my friend did some training that her work paid for she had to stay on for a year after she'd completed the course or she'd have to pay the money back, its worth asking someone in the company there policy so your on the safe sideOther women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts
