Are you fed up with stealthy increases in food prices?

It's not just food. It's everything. Gas and electricity, council tax, food, everything.
Of course my wage hasn't gone up AT ALL.0 -

Very relevant to your user name! Tonight the BBC did a report from a biscuit factory in London. Their raw material costs have gone up by 50% in a year. Thats why prices for the shoppers are going up.What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

I buy diluting squash for kids pack lunches instead of over priced fruit shoots etc. My children do drink water too before someone comes back and suggests tap water
The new Tesco squash is also double concentrated so you only need to use half as much, so it does work out as better value.

Their profits surged to £2.8billion according to the news yesterday ... it still only works out at about 5.5% of turnover. it is not an unacceptably high profit margin for a business of that size.
It has been well known that food prices and the prices of other goods is expected to soar due to rising inflation, rising oil prices, failing crops, rising wages etc. etc. etc. Also when it comes to food stuff more and more land is likely to be diverted towards bio-fuels which in itself will cause the prices to rise.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Crude oil prices have now reached a record $114 a barrel. This will feed through to the general economy and force up prices even more. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

That simply means they have a high market share of a large industry. It doesn't mean they are making a lot of money on the products they sell.
It's now been mentioned hundreds of times that the profit margin is around 5% of turnover. You won't find many other industries with such a low profit margin. Indeed all the people moaning are almost bound to work in industries that have higher profit margins! So are they going to start complaining about themselves?0 -
Here is a comic item on the bio-fuels debate. There is serous message there regarding the diversion of land to grow fuel instead of food, and one reason why the price of such things as wheat and rice are rising :-

As far as i'm concerned there could be a million and 1 reasons for rising costs but it doesn't make it any easier to accept that i can barely afford to feed my family, pay for gas, electric and diesel (which i believe costs have gone up 20% for) and have anything left over to throw my son a small party for his 1st birthday next week! In fact i think the vast majority of the UK would agree with me!
And in response to waiting a year for wage increase to catch up with cost of living increases, this years 2.5% wage increase doesn't even cover last years rise in cost of living expenses, so its not really working is it?0
