Encryption Software - Secure IT Cypherix

Hi,
I wondered whether anyone is using or has used Secure IT's encryption software, called Cypherix, and could give me an idiot's guide as to how it works?
I am new to this but have downloaded a trial version.
Think I must be being extremely dim(!) but I can't fathom out what it is doing.
When I select a file or folder and ask it to encrypt it seems to leave the original file or folder where it is but then creates a copy of it which is then encrypted. Sometimes the encrypted copy is automatically named with the same name as the source file, sometimes it is given a name like "file 13 Apr". I haven't figured out how it chooses between these.
Do I have to encrypt first, then delete the original source file each time? I had thought that by encrypting you were encryting the original source file, not creating an encrypted copy?
How do I then decrypt and reinstate the original file or folder back to its original place, or isn't this possible?
Sorry, v. confused (and it does say it's supposed to be simple to use...)!
Thanks in advance.

if you are using Cypherix's Cryptainer PE try truecrypt - much easier0

Not used it, but wondered whether you'd tried Truecrypt? Might be easier to use (and I'm sure it's more effective)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
