PS2 network gaming - cannot connect

we`ve bought a slimline PS2 from PLAY.COM and DS reckons you can play online games with it .
Looking at it he sems to be right as we`ve registered his PS2 online with the network access code which came in the box and given him a gaming handle and password
However when we connect to orange livebox then try to connect so he can play PES6 online it times out and won`t connect .
Does anyone have any idea why this is?
Is it easily fixed?

I`ve already tried loadsa websites and forums thanks gameguy but it`s all foreign to me .
PS and Orange help lines couldn`t even help after AGES on `phone to them both
The only helpfull thing you`ve brought to my attenetion was to try switching off livebox but even that has not helped

Has anyone else any ideas . . . . . .

Or am I looking at simply not being able to connect ?

Would this network CD I see mentioned help if I could get one?

in the manual of burnout paradise (ps3) there is a list of ports that the game uses for online play. is there anything similar in the PES6 manual?

or if not, Sony may have taken the server down like they have for wrc4

Nothing in the manual gameguy

I`ll have to get another game which is network enabled to see if the same problem comes up
