Aerials on new cars

  • My aerial has lasted for more than 10 years, but then again I don't deliberately drive it into a garage door every day.

    I don't have an aerial. I'm wondering where it is cos I can listen to the radio fine. :o

    I suspect you might have one of these fitted? SharkFinDisplay_pic1.jpg they're usually on the more expensive cars.

    Nope. I think it may be built into the back window but not sure.

    Oh yes, apparently in earlier incarnations of my car they used to be built into the sunroof so it's not completely out of the bounds of possibility :)

    I'm amazed manufacturers still use these types of aerials with the risks of damage, vandalism and theft. I used to have an E36 BMW (dates back to 1991) which had the aerial in the rear windscreen ... and I have to say the reception was excellent.

    Aren't these for factory fitted sat navs? (Could be wrong tho'!):D

    Strange. Some years back I had a Ford Orion with the aerial in the rear window. I then had a hire car for a few days which was an identical car but with a conventional aerial.
    I did notice a marked difference between the two, with the conventional aerial coming out much better. Until I had the hire car I just blamed any poor reception in my car on the "lie of the land" !
