Hi All
Has any one been to a Medical Assessment which is part of the process if on incapacity Benefit?
Just wondering what sort of questions they ask,how long it takes & the outcome of your assesments etc etc.
Would be good to here from you.
Or if its been posted on here could you point me in the right direction.
Thank you.

Hello Sugarspice - I had one about 3 years ago but I'm sure someone will be along soon with more recent experience. It was fine, the doctor asked questions about my health. I took someone along with me (you can) as I get very nervous. From memory I think it took a few weeks for the paperwork to come back. Best wishes

Hello SUGARSPICE, Generally the Doctor will ask you about your typical day and also ask you about any problems that you have physically and/or mentally in relation to the descriptors that they consider. From this you will be awarded points to see if you qualify for IB. The medical should take between 20 and 60 minutes. People have posted about medicals on here before but they are usually negative experiences because they are in need of advice. Many people have no problems with the medicals but would be unlikely to post because of this. If you do a search under Incapacity Benefit or PCA you should find some peoples experiences but you may have to trawl through other IB related stuff to find them. I hope this helps.0

try this too, its how DWP see health conditions - but do try not to be frightend - as healy says you only hear the negatives.0 -
Thank you for your replies.
Does any one know what happens if Eg: I didnt meet threshold,I went back to work and did more damage to myself so having to be off work again?
I would have to make a complaint,wouldnt I?
Its going to be really annoying if this happens and Im being truthful with all the health conditions/pain etc that I have.
Also with my Med 4 form hes only put down 1 diagnosis when Ive got another 3.Do they take into consideration whats not on the form?
Any advice?0 -

I would have to make a complaint, wouldnt I? No they accept no responsibility for injuries you incur due to employment. They consider if there is any employment you could do rather than what injuries specific employments could cause to you
Also with my Med 4 form hes only put down 1 diagnosis when Ive got another 3.Do they take into consideration whats not on the form? You will be given the time to discuss all conditions you have, they may need to write to your GP/consultant to confirm them of course.
Any advice? As others have said be honest, if you are told you are not unfit to work then discuss with an advisor about suitable employment for someone with your conditions. It's about your personal capability to earn money in employment, if there are things which would mean you can't be employed, rather than what conditions you have etc.
Try not to worry, most of the doctors who work for the DWP I have met are nice. If you are honest then they can't trip you up on anything.
One day I might be more organised...........

Thank you.
Is it ok to mention to them that Im thinking of looking into doing Permitted work?
Ive had to give up full time jobs in the past due to my health so Im hoping that I can do Permitted work as well as still get claim IB as it will get me back to work/seeing if Im able to still work without it affecting me too much.If you get what I mean?
Should I mention it?0
