Can I Go With Any Company For Gas & Electric
Hi,
Im due to move house soon and I have always had the pre pay meters for both gas and electric. I dont know nothing about the gas and electric of the new house as I have only viewed it once as its private rented. I have tried to understand the sites which shows you which you could save with but its got me a little confused!!Sorry...
Basically would I save more if both gas and electric was through the same company rather than british gas and LEB?DO you really pay more If you have a pre pay meter?
Which company really is good?Npower came up the cheapist but if the property I am moving into is british gas for example can you switch suppliers?
Thank you.

That is what they like people to ASSUUME - i.e. shout about dual-feul discounts and hope people will not bother checking. You need to check by comparing combined with seperate suppliers.

Usually, yes, although the government did say (at last budget I think) that they wanted this inequality reduced or removed. I believe ebico charge the same for pre-pay as for billed customers, but I don't know how they compare on price in the first place.

Personally, I've never heard anybody praise NPower (and my folks had major issues with them) but yes, they do often come out cheapest in comparisons..
If the property you move to is supplied by compay A, you can generally move to company B without too much hassle - although there are some things to be aware of e.g, if the property has 2 supply references (economy10 or heatwise tarrifs are favourites for this I believe) it can trip up the switching process.

MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
