Cashback vs 'Free' gift (PS3)
Well in my particular situation...
200mins and 200 txts suit me fine. So O2 200 seems an ideal tariff.
I've seen a few deals on this tariff with Nokia 6300 (clearance insome cases) which I'm happy with.
Now I was very close to going for the deal with e2save/OSPS where it's 12 months free via redemption on a 12month contract with monthly payments of £30. So effectively free for the year/duration of the contract. (plus i get circa £37 cashback via quidco)
Now I've come across e2save's deal where its
O2 200 tarriff @ £30 p/m
Nokia 6300
£20 auto cashback
PS3 40GB!!
So in effect, for £340 I get the phone/contract plus a PS3 (plus I get circa £37 cashback via quidco, so that would by me a game).
At Currys (for e.g.) the PS3 is retailing for £300. So I could go for the 12 months free deal and fork out £300 for a PS3 but I wouldn't be able to pay that monthly.
I'm not even after a PS3 and paying £300 for a games console... I just couldn't justify it.
Gone are the days when you never got any gift/cashback. You just paid the tariff as listed. It's buyer's market now so they throw all these freebies.
I've always opted for lowest overall payment/monthly outlay but a PS3 has just made it attractive. I can manage the £30 payments. That's what I used to pay 3 years ago... even when I earned less than half what I earn now.
So what you all think I should do?
Cashback or PS3?

Do you actually want a PS3? In which case, you would get one for free or would you prefer to end up with a mobile that has not cost you anything for a year.
I am just coming to the end of a 12 month free deal with OSPS, I have my last claim for cashback to make this week. All has gone well so far, I have just sold the 6300 that I got from the deal for £51 to CEX, so I am more than happy.0 -
I wasn't after a PS3 as such, so I would have been extremely happy with a 12 month free deal. Having a new games console hadn't even crossed my mind.Do you actually want a PS3? Knowing I can get one providing I pay the full tariff price is still quite reasonable considering it's what I used to pay anyway a few years ago (infact it's a bonus!)
I think it all comes down to marketing, price promotion and psychology. You think you're getting something for free whereas in fact your just paying for it through some other means i.e full tarriff compared to full cashback.0 -
Could you provide me with a link to the offer you're referring to on e2save as I can't seem to find a contract with a PS3 for £340.0

Im thinking of getting a PS3 but its a bit expensive & am waiting for the price to go down but this deal is tempting! Like you I also saw both the deals and am also considering which one to go for.
I would say go for the PS3 deal as it has a Blu Ray/DVD player which costs a fair bit if you look around and not forgetting you are getting HD gaming.0 -
Hi - im not familiar with the cashback schemes, but I know there have been some problems with the redemption bit? Have you considered that, and checked out e2saves record with cashback..We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic.

Just been told that apparently the PS3 deal is 'while stocks last'. So there is no guarantee you will even get that!0
