Hi everyone, I no this is going to sound a little silly but I need some advice of gas and electric.

I have just moved in to a house with prepay meters in and they are costing me the earth, if I move them over to pay monthly can you pay a set amount a month like £40.00 for both. I can no afford to get two separate bills every month for £100s of pounds.

Any advice would really help…….

If you get the meters taken out (speak to your supplier), you will get a cheaper price per kWh, but you will still pay for what you use - the monthy amount is a guess at how much you will use on average each month - if you use more, you pay more, but it is cheaper.
  • I believe ebico charge the same for pre-pay as for billed usage - you could see what their rates are like compared to what you pay at the moment.

If they are cheaper than your current, you could still save some money whilst not being landed with a huge bill.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

If you rent I don't think you can change from a pre-pay meter (more than happy to be corrected) - only the landlord can.

If you're a homeowner, I would suggest going onto the utility company's website or ringing them to get some idea of tariffs and different costings.

    Best of luck.
