For those who remember the 70s and 80s, you may feel as excited as I do that clothkits is back. ...... https://www.clothkits.co.uk
I remember my daughter wearing various pinefores made from clothkits....they always looked so lovely. I certainly will be keeping an eye on the site to see what they bring out.

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

I remember their shop in Winchester near the Cathedral. they use to sell off cuts and seconds for bargain prices . Have just looked at the new site and thought 'How Much' How can they justify £25 for a little girls plain dress that you still have to sew yourself.0

wow that is expensive!! great idea though im sure alot more people would try to sew their own cloths if they knew where to start. i`d be tempted to buy one to try to see how easy/hard it is then that would give me an idea of how to cut cloth/templates in the future.proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

Oooh, how exciting, I was a clothkits child. I also made some of their adult stuff for myself in the early 90s.
Does anyone remember the Cloth Kitty doll ? I loved it and her clothes.0 -
WOW! What a rip-off, surely it would be easier to stuff your money down the drain in the street and cheaper to cellotape bank notes together and wear them:D
Why pay over the odds for a load of fabric scraps to be jammed through the letter box which you then have to cobble together yourself. I can understand this idea making sense back in the 70's when children's clothes were in real-terms, more expensive than now. I myself was known to don an elephant ear collared, velveteen suit, that my Mother ran up on her trusty Singer, but nowadays we have child protection laws to stamp out this kind of humiliation:rotfl:
Whip into Pimada and get similar gear for under £5 and spend the difference on cheap plonk and good chocolate!!!! I sayLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
But clothkits clothes were [certainly in the 80s] really lovely compared to most of the rubbish available in the high st stores.
Angchris had a good idea of getting one and then using it almost as a patternWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
Bought a doll in '80's and daughter aged 3 saw the arms and legs ready to be sewn onto the body.
Doll was thereafter called "Arms & Legs" :rotfl::cool:
an absolute favourite.
Still cuddled at night0 -
What happy memories this brings back! I used to sew Clothkits outfits for my daughters in the '70s. Elder DD was actually Christened (aged 4) in a Clothkits dress, and I particularly remember younger DD in a pair of dungarees (deep pink with purple designs!:D ) and matching hat. She looked so cute (goes off into haze of nostalgia....) I remember a set of doll's bedding too, pillow, sheet and minitiature quilt. My Sister-in-law sewed Clothkits for her DD too, and made "Clothkitty" and "Clothkit". The company started producing fewer and fewer "cut-out-and-sew" clothes and went over to ready-made, and I did wonder if that was why the company ended up folding. The kits were a huge help to people like me who weren't very confident about sewing.
MATH - their clothes weren't cheap even then, but were excellent quality - could be passed down through several children.:D0 -

Don't I know it! I wasn't the only one to be shoe-horned into that dratted velveteen suit, many a shame-faced cousin suffered after me and our family wedding photos are testiment to the fact you couldn't damage it or render it unwearable even if you really REALLY tried LOLLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0
