Screen "No Input Signal"

I have a Hansol flat screen monitor and have recently been receiving a "No input signal" message when I power up my PC.
It is an analog signal. I have checked and rechecked the wires/connections - even disconnected and reconnected them.
Often if I reboot the PC 4 or 5 times it will eventually catch and give me a picture but today I had to reboot about 10 times before the monitor would acknowledge a signal input and give me a picture.
Is this a common fault ? Is there something simple I could look at ?

Regards,

Mr_F.

If you have checked at both ends of the vga cable (unscrew, check pins), then it is probably your video card.

I had this problem on my old setup - it was a badly-seated graphics card. Open up your case and check yours is slotted fully in (should be a small plastic clip that will catch when the card is fully seated)

I've also seen these symptoms when the screen refresh rate is set just too high - the monitor can sometimes synch, and sometimes not.

Check under Display properties, Advanced, Monitor and see if a lower refresh rate can be selected.

plug it into your laptop or take it round to a mates house, so you know if it is the screen or pc.

    How old, guarantee?

Does your monitor have analogue and digital inputs? If so, is there a way to manually select between them?

Fox - monitor has both an analog and digital input. There are two different plug types (pin sockets) on the monitor (requiring different leads) - I have only the analog lead connection (I believe).
On front of monitor there is a swich that allows me to switch between digital and analog input.
    Does this help ?

Thanks fwor. Have just tried this and found that my monitor is already set on lowest setting of 60Hz. Thanks anyway.

I had a similar problem to this quite recently, I took out my graphics card, wiped the gold plated terminals, re-fitted it, cured.;)

I agree with rdpro and Inactive, graphics cards can sometimes shift out of their socket and need pushing back in again. Definitely worth checking, especially if the PC has been moved at all. Sometimes if the cable is pulling down hard at a funny angle that can flip the card out of its socket also.

When it says 'No input signal' and the PC is switched on, have you tried pressing the button to swap between the inputs? It's a long shot (or else it should never have worked) but it's an easy one to try,
