I also have a UV, and used barley straw, but none were as effective as Blanket Answer, and its completely natural, no harm to the fish, or plant life, I now enjoy my pond more as I am not constantly dragging out the dreaded weed!!
You've got to remember there are more than one type of algae, your UV will clears the green water which is one type of algae, but that opens the door to blanket weed which is another type.

I was wondering whether it was warm enough to feed the fish, I was a bit worried about feeding so thanks islandman you have confirmed my feelings.
