They're a doddle to fit yourself. You'll need keys to remove your current head unit, a new metal surround for the new head unit, and possibly an adaptor cable between your car and the new head unit.
A pro would fit it in 10 minutes. With the correct advice you could do it in less than an hour.0 -
May also need an aerial adaptor.
See the install wizard bottom left and select your car and hopefully it should come up with any adaptors needed assuming your car has the standard stereo.

It's very easy, once you have the old stereo out, it's a case of plugging in the adaptor, then connecting the one supplied with the new one to it.
And the sliding it all into place. The hardest part is fitting those bloody metal cages0 -

they arent always supplied to connect the manufacturers plug to the stereos ISO plugs.
best bet is to buy the stereo of your choice, check out a company called autoleads, they can supply most facia adaptors and wiring harnesses.
most can be found in halfords/motorworld....work permit granted!0 -
thanks everyone, i may give it a go, have no keys to remove the current head unit, its a double din tape cd things in a vw golf 2002. so i guess i need a single din box to put the new one in. i tried fitting a new head unit in a car years ago and it was a nightmare, i think its all standised more now but there are lots of cables on the back of the new unit! im not electrically minded!
thanks helen0 -
You can buy the keys from Ebay, some dealers won't sell them as they're a 'tool'. You'll be able to buy a single DIN oddment compartment from VW.
You don't need to be electrically minded, you can't plug anything in the wrong hole so don't worry0 -
