I do feel for you - it can be very difficult. I don't know the answer to your question, but believe you should be eligible for income support. Hopefully, someone will come along soon with a definitive answer for you. Have you tried asking work colleagues about their childcare arrangements? I found the best child minder by recommendation of a work colleague when I was in a similar situation.

  • yes you will get benefit, even if you deliberatly pack in work. in the worse case scenarion if they wont grant you JSA/IS you will eligble for hardship allowance (which is only about a tenner less than JSA/IS), all the other benefits such as child benefits wont be affected.

although, i think it would make things a little easier if you try and get yourself sacked,

As a single parent you can claim Income Support. There would be no need to "get yourself sacked".

telling op to try and get the sack would not go down to well in her emloyment record when she does decide to go back to work.

Hi, I couldn`t go back to work after maternity leave because of an ill baby. I had to wait until my maternity pay for that month finished and then I got income support the next week. I did have someone come round to discuss my childrens father as they wanted to get the CSA involved. I feel you with the appointments. I only work part time as she is still ill 1 in 3 weeks and she has lots of appointments too. She`s been really bad this winter and I am thinking of reducing my hours as by time I work back the hours I`ve missed, she`s ill again.

Not sure if they`ll help you with the bond though. I know there is such thing as crisis loan but not sure if it`ll cover that. Also some landlords won`t rent if you on benefits, so may be best if you can to find somewhere to live and then finish work.

i cannot believe people on here are advising the OP to get sacked so she can receive more in state benefits.

no wonder this country is going down the pan.

Sacked for misconduct is treated the same as resigned by the JSA adjudication officers.

Do you have a lone parent advisor? If so then give them a phone and explain that you cannot cope with working and being a lone parent. Because you have only been in work a short amount of time, they should be able to fast track your claim for IS, HB and CTB.

You will not lose out on any benefits because of your lone parent status.

I am a lone working parent also and I sympathise as it's a constant juggling act.

Hope you get on well :)
