I too have some PC problem.
I do apologise in advance but have very little knowledge in this area.

Whilst sat here this am I have AGAIN had some advert play through the speakers mentioning a new Linx product. I see this site is ad free & have no idea how this is getting through.

What type of pc security is preferable just now as I think we may need to revise/upgrade?

    TIA for reading

I'd try the kaspersky online virus scan -free- it's one of the best but can take a while. This doesn't fix/remove anything so you have to write down everything it finds or work down the list manually deleting things- you can always restore from recycle bin if needed.
It may well be best to re-install your OS and all drivers/progs.

Just as easy to download and run the Kaspersky trial of either AV or security suite .
    free for 30 days .

I only recommend the following Kaspersky Internet Security suite and the freeware
SuperAntispyware . Plus keep them updated (kaspersky updates every hour as automatic ) . Keep your OS and browser updated with the relevant security patches . Watch what you click or install .

This is the best software for removing trojans (and other malware) and it is free.

are you running your anti virus in safe mode to remove ??

    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

boot to safe mode after updating Avast and Superantispyware and then do a full scan with both

Have just finished the A/V an found two of the same type, stored in separate locations, of which both where Music areas?:

Avast! has them names as Win32:RootKit-gen[Rtk]
    C:\Program Files\RealTek\InstallSheild\chcfg.exe and
    C:\PNP\Audio\chcfg.exe again.

Are these possible what are re-installing the Trojans back onto my dads computer?

And yes, I have disabled the Restore System as when ever we done a scan, it was finding Viruses inside the Restore Points.

    Thanks,
    Allan

    You should also fix

    O16 - DPF: {C49134CC-B5EF-458C-A442-E8DFE7B4645F} (YYGInstantPlay Control) - http://www.yoyogames.com/downloads/activex/YoYo.cab

Sometimes Yo Yo has problems with their site games, only last month they had a dialer implanted on the website.

I will go have a look, thanks for pointing this out,
    Allan.

I got a site from my mum called www.filehippo.com. This gives you all sorts of fantastic FREE software and protection.

You can basically choose from a list :)

Format C: and start again, insatll good AV and Spybot search and destroy anti spyware, scan all external storage, problem sorted, head ache over.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Im not to sure if my dad still has his original copy and license key for it. Ive suggested this many times, but he has a lot that would need to be backed up too.

Some how, he has managed to generate about 50GB or random stuff over about 3 or 4 years. Most of it, I am assuming it is games and pictures from his friends wedding etc.
