Has anyone saved through Directline? I have just received my application pack but was a bit put off as they asked for a direct debit to be set up, so i can transfer and withdraw from the account. Is this right? I thought it was a standing order?

Quite a few banks/bs will only allow transfers into their accounts via DD. The advantage that this has over BACS is that the transfer from your linked account is carried out on the same day, whereas BACS there's usually 3 to 4 working days transfer period. The disadvantage is that once funds are received into the account from your linked account, should you require them, they aren't immediately available (clearing time).
