And the parent company, HSBC Holdings currently has its HQ in London ...
But 'The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd.' is incorporated in Hong Kong, and HSBC Holdings' many subsidiaries are usually registered locally.

And whether you regard it as the 'World's Local Bank' or the 'World's Largest Bank' (Forbes) it is surely, first and foremost, an international company.

I'll accept that, I reckon. While referring to the Group rather than the Bank anyway.

Yes, HSBC on its own is ambiguous. But you are no doubt right to assume it means the UK bank, at least as far as normal discussion in this forum is concerned.
