Infuriated with Gardeners World

Just tuning in for another hysterical episode!
Lets see what the gardening fairies do this week.....:rotfl:
Pity I can't get my local council to come and dig another patch in my lawn so I can extend my veg patch0 -
I'm afraid I stopped watching it (having previously been an avid fan) after poor old Geoff Hamilton died. From the moment they anointed Alan Titchmarsh his successor, it was clear that the programme was henceforth going to be personality driven
Rachel de Thame? Please!
Couldn't agree more! Geoff was the Master without a doubt. I was just getting into it when he was on and I got loads from him. I thought Titchmarsh was bearable, he paid great tribute to Geoff and explained that he (Titchmarsh) could never fill Geoff's shoes.
However, Monty Don is just wrong.
Rachel is eyecandy. The nigella of the greenhouse but without the
charisma0 -
This week's allotment highlights
1. Jo complaining about the weeds coming again and again
2. Manuel with appropriate accent giving Jo some Garlic
3. Jo sowing seeds at home like he has never sown seeds beforeI'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
So this week it's a pile of free decking that has suddenly appeared to surround his shed and line the paths. At least he mentioned the lining underneath them this time to suppress weed. I am quite confused by last night's instalment. He rang Monty for advice (why was this necessary when Manuel was helpfully working close by and could have told him what to do) implying that the advice is relevant to this week/month, if so why were his onions and garlics not going straight into the ground but instead being put in pots at home? Why make extra work? Is it because he's got to clear the weeds? And what happened to last week's raspberry plants which he heeled into the ground on the understanding that they needed to go in pretty smartish? Much more useful to beginners to show how to plant these than how to sow a few seeds at home. At least he's back on his bike again0

I guess if they had the other allotment owners giving advice to Jo the Beeb would find a new gardening star or two, and one of Monty Don et al would be out of a job.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

How did he manage to not only have ready access to piles of pallets, a forest of beautiful planks, barrowloads of compost and bark chippings but also appear to have his plot cleared and ready to go in a couple of hours. Why did he rotavate the land when he knew it was full of perennial weeds and then moan about having to clear the weed pieces?
I have an allotment and it is really hard work to start with but I guess that wouldn't make good TV.
What I gathered from watching the show is the council provided the wood chips and compost. He said it was gone pretty quick.
I dont remember the pallets but I have read on here you can ask homebase etc for them and they give them away free. (I havent tried it only read it)
I personally enjoy gardeners world, I like the new format where all the presenters are split up. I am only into my second year of veg gardening so for beginners and so on it seems nice and simple to watch, learn and take tips from. Then he buys a shed on ebay and doesnt even pay the full amount
Then he mysteriously loses his environmentally friendly bike and replaces it with a van which he uses to transport a Fork and a camera around
His mate builds him a shed.
Again, from the show I saw he paid (iirc) £20 instead of £25 due to the floor being totally rotted and unusable and the seller accepted it. The shed was then taken back in the van, I dont think he could of managed to fit it onto the bike basket.
Then they both built the shed when they got it back, unless I missed huge chunks I definetly remember him seeing doing the roof.
I am not sure if it's due to my age as I dont know about any presenters before Monty.0 -
If you want a more entertaining and truthful guide then there is a DVD called "the allotment". The presenters ( Jane Moore and David Cemlyn ) are not as professional as Monty et al but what they do is real and they interview real people.
They cope with weeds and go begging for stuff to compost and kill slugs.
Its a hoot and you could always put it on after you've had a dose of GW.0 -
ahh pants i missed it anyone know if its repeated?0

The whole allotment thing that jo swift has created is just not realistic. I have just aquired a plot 3 weeks ago and it is really hard work. I have managed to weed kill and dig just a fraction of my plot. Get in the real world bbc! For most people like me it will take ages to get the plot round and personally i find the programme misleading...insinuating that it is that easy#440 sealed pot challenge0

Don't know why its not realistic, he used big machinery to do all the work? I honestly hopes he seriously regrets rotovating all that couch grass, otherwise it looks like the right thing to do for anyone watching and it definately isn't!
I missed the 2nd one, (you can catch it on the bbc website) but the first one I liked, I want to see his mistakes not just a perfect allotment. Watch the rest with interest.
TBH it was nice just to see gardening about vegetables on GW.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
