  • Have you been checking your system for spyware/malware? They can also slow down your computer. Also try and defragment your disk drive as your files may be fragmented and so it can also slow down the computer.

98se Hmmmm do you have to tell the Bios about the new ram I cant remember someone out there Jog my grey matter please.
  • I do not think you will have to tell BIOS about the new RAM. It should have already detected it automatically on startup unless the RAM has not been inserted correctly

The resources referred to in the error is a fixed area of memory under Win98, so regardless of whether you have 128Mb or 512Mb its the same. Sounds to me like you have quite a few items running in the background (including possibly spyware) as you mention both Avast! and McAfee. I assume the McAfee is their personal firewall, supplied by AOL and not Antivirus/Internet Security.

I'd suggest initially scan for Spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy and then with Lavasofts Ad-Aware SE 1.06, make sure you update both and then disconnect the PC from your broadband whilst you scan/clean it.
