Hi

I wonder if someone can help?? my mum spilt tea (with sugar in) on her laptop then put it on the radiator to dry:eek:

obviously it doesnt work, it turns on but nothing comes on the screen, and the keys are very sticky, does anybody know if there is a way to clean/repair it. I would rather not take it to a shop cos it has personal information in it and you dont know who you can trust do you??

many thanks in advance:D

Would you be confident in stripping it apart yourself?

She didnt want to claim on house insurance incase it put premiums up, so she bought a new one.

So i just thought if there is a way of trying to clean it up we would have a go if it doesnt work it doesnt matter cos we got a new one, it just seems a shame cos its only 6 months old?

    Any ideas??

What brand laptop is it? You have probably blown a component on the motherboard and it will be very unlikely that you will be able to fix this yourself. Your best bet is to speak to the manufacturer and see what they suggest.

if it were mine I would strip and soak all effected areas in Isopropyl alcohol usually does the trick but 1. Isopropyl is not always easy to find and 2 it is usually a labour of love and may not work anyway with a sealed laptop keyboard.

If it is just the keyboard that is effected (it could prevent bootup for obvious reasons) then look on ebay and put a want it now post their too.

Otherwise take all the bits out that haven't been effected and sell on ebay as spares then sell the body with screen you might be surprised what you get for it all.

    Don't just throw it away.

Hard drive can be connected to your desktop to recover any data you would otherwise lose.

I recently bought a bottle on ebay - there are several people selling it. I'm surprised it's not sold by chemists (well not my local ones anyway) as it's a very versatile cleaner/disinfectant. (And it smells nice! redface.gif)

An old fashioned chemist is precisely where I get mine from although they don't do prescriptions they sell everything else! Never thought of ebay I bet it is dear!
