Norton on and it kills my connection.

I installed some updates the other day (the small yellow icon in the lower right screen) and now my internet connection has been lost. I called Virgin and to cut a long story short they said its my firewall. I cut Norton off and i get a connection, i put it on and i lose it.
Does anyone know how to stop this?

Dunno which version it is, think its norton 2005.

How to cure it? Uninstall it. Norton 2005 apart from being utter rubbish will also be so out of date as to offer inadequate security for new stuff. Windows firewall is fine and get the free AVG.

Are you connected to VirginMedia through a gateway cable router? If so, then you are protected anyway by the inbuilt hardware firewall. Firewalls tend to conflict with each other, like antivirus programs.
Also, if you do have a router you do have it password protected, don't you ? And have changed the default network name for it? I also disable the ping and the SSID broadcast, as it's effective enough locally, but will not deter an expert hacker.

Norton's a pig to uninstall, so remember Google is your friend......as well as helpful posts on this forum about the subject.

Tell norton firewall that your router ip is a trusted network.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I helped someone with this last night, go start, settings, control panel, security centre, firewall and unblock internet explorer.
